Download a random timer app for your phone.

Next time you're on foot in public (walking to class, to lunch at work, out for a walk with the dog, whatever), set up the random timer. The minimum time should be the expected duration of your walk divided by four. Maximum time should be the expected duration of your walk plus 10%. That way there's a chance it won't go off... and a chance it'll go off up to four times.

Now from here on out, it's very simple:

When the timer goes off... FREEZE!

Right then, right there. Do not find a better spot. Do not adjust your posture beyond the absolute bare minimum necessary to not fall or otherwise risk serious injury to yourself or others. Just freeze.

Then count to fifty-one, by threes. Silently! I see your lips moving! Shush! Just use your brain.

Hey! I see those eyeballs swiveling. I said freeze! You may breathe, of course. But try to do it subtly.

You may not move until you've completed the count. If you mess up, lose your place, get distracted, etc... start over from 0. (0, 3, 6, 9, etc)

Obviously, do not freeze in the middle of the street and get killed by a bus... or in a posture in which you're certain to fall over. But if your timer goes off, and you're balanced mid-stride on one foot? Well... tough. Balance on one foot.

Ideally, this would work best with Bluetooth earbuds, but you may use vibration if you feel you can reliably detect it.
