Default The summertime tree hugger dare

You've been naughty! You clicked on this thread and thus polluted our precious athmosphere with more CO2 (internet servers and your PC do require energy, after all).

So I dare you to make up for your naughty behavior by going out and hugging a tree to show some appreciation for the part of nature that'll have to work hard this summer to convert your CO2 back into oxygen.

However, we'll make it a bit harder. Don't just run out into your back yard and hug a tree, noooooo, you must choose from one of the following options:
(1) Do it in a public park or somewhere where people will definitely see you doing it.
(2) Go to some nearby forest (or use your back yard, if you're bold) and hug a tree completely naked (except for your shoes so you don't hurt yourself)
(3) Hug the tree in your underwear and use a picture of that as your getdare avatar (is that still allowed? People were dared to pose in their underwear for their avatar picture in another thread here)

Give a tree some love and appreciation!

So, you'd like to die. We get oxygen from trees. I bet you don't even recycle.

I did number one when I was in secondary school. The tree was in view of the classroom where the prefects/student council hung out. That was... Many years ago now XD

I will totally do this. Actually I have done it, in public, many times before. Even harder is tree-kissing (lol)

@ ctvette- How dare you?! What an absolutely terrible thing to say! Global warming is a true danger! You don't realize the danger humans are placing on the Earth- tree huggers might just be the best people on Earth, for they are attempting to save themselves, me, you, all the animals, all the plants, everyone. Even Earth Herself. Have you heard of the Rare Earth theory? Probably not as you are ignorant enough not to understand the good that enviromentalists are doing. It is the theory reflected by the following equation:

N = N* x ne x fg x fp x fpm x fi x fe x fc x fl x fm x fj x fme

Or, in other terms:

The number of Earth-like planets = The number of stars in the milky way * the average number of planets in a star's habitable zone * the number of stars in the galactic habitable zone (the part of the galaxy that life is possible) * the fraction of stars with planets in the Milky Way * the amount of rocky planets * the fraction of habitable planets in which bacterial life is possible * the fraction of planets where complex life developes * the total lifespan of a planet during which complex life is present * the fraction of habitable planets with a large moon * the fraction of planetary systems with large Jovian planets (gas giants) * is the fraction of planets with a sufficiently low number of extinction events (a stable condition).

How many other planets like this do you know of?

Really, how many? Because, that is a pretty slim percentage of planets where complex life can appear. And we're ruining the only planet we know of that there is life. Think about how perfect our world could be. How beautifully run. How much plant life, how much biodiversity (fancy word for lots of different types of life forms), how absurd, how- improbable it was for intellegent life to develop. Maybe it really didn't- since there are still people like you who are so ignorant to not notice the huge danger Earth is in, and go on not only polluting, but criticizing those logical, or loving, enough to want to continue life on this remarkable planet.

Do a little more research, mans impact on global warming is marginal at best. It is really nothing more the Gore's personal get rich scheme and that's a fact. He has personal made $100,000,000 on the BS he hypes and that's another fact you welcome to check on! They are as many scientists to discredit the global warming hype as there are ones who thinks its real. Oh did i mention the scientists that think its real are the same ones that are receiving huge government grants to prove its real! Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm. Don't believe everything you hear on the news, next thing i know you will be telling me Obama is out savior, instead of a socialist on a collision course to bankrupting our country.

I think Obama is awesome. At least he isn't Bush, he was a moron. And even if Global Warming isn't true. Doesn't erase the fact that going around and cutting down trees wouldn't be a bad idea. I don't see how you can hate people for trying to help the environment. Whether is makes a big difference or not, at least they aren't you.

I agree with vette on the global warming thing, it's a scam. The scale of the scam makes Bernie Madoff look like a boy scout.

I started to realize that something was amiss when I read that the polar ice caps on Mars have shrunk in the same timeframe as our own. What do we have in common whith Mars? We have the same heating source, the Sun. It is fluctuations in the Sun's intensity that are causing global warming, and cooling. Mr Gore has figured out how to profit from acts of nature.

Anyway, if anyone is going to get naked and hug a tree, I will be more than happy to watch...lol

I happen to like trees and nudity, even if man has nothing to do with global warming. What a crock!

I hate to get involved, but there is a lot of ridiculousness going on here. First of all, do I consider myself an environmentalist? Not at all. But still, some things need to be clarified here.

Is global warming real? The correct answer is maybe. That's not a yes, but is there any harm in taking precautions? For instance, releasing large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere can never be a good thing, not matter how you slice it. The earth has been in perfect balance for a long time, and throwing things into the atmosphere pulls off that balance.

Secondly, I don't understand the negativity towards the environmentalists. I'm pretty sure 90% of them are getting involved because they care.Contrary to popular belief, people don't always do things to get more money.

Sorry for going off topic.

Just_one,

I have no issues with them when they are protecting the rain forest or rivers form pollution amongst many other things. However when massive construction project are brought to a screeching halt because a salamander might get squished or we cant build nukes (the most cost effective, lowest emission & safest form of energy on the planet) then i take issue. Just like i take issue with the nut cases trying to protect every endangered specie on the plant. Its called evolution, just like the dinosaurs everything has its time and place and most likely the human race is part of the same equation!

I'm ok with people caring about the environment, but when you are talking about imposing anourmous taxes on people to address a problem that we aren't even sure that we caused, let alone that we can actually fix it, I have a problem.

Realizing that the economic impact of the proposed fix can be devastating for economies that are in dire straits already, we need to be careful what we do here. For many people the result will be that they are out of work (or siply continue to be so) and possibly very desperate.

Given the choice between losing the ability to support yourself and chasing a problem whose outcome you probably will never influence anyway, which do you choose? I know my answer, what is yours?

That said, I think this is off of the main topic here. I promise not to come back to this thread and post on politics. Otherwise, I will accept this dare as a punishment!

Maybe we need new thread for the political discussion. Sorry for srcewing up the thread ciss.

another fun thing to do alone could be to pretend that the tree is giving you anal by bending over and bouncing your butt against it. You could also pretend to give the tree oral
