StarCraft 2!!

Blizzard took long enough, but finally it will be released this year! Early summer I think for the US. Not sure about other countries.

Who is going to get? Who doesn't want to get it?

Who never heard of starcraft before this thread?

I am going to get it.

the BETA was released. god knows it could be another 10 years before the rest of the world actually gets to play :P

You haven't played the original Starcraft so you have no idea how awesome starcraft is! It's greatness even beats getdare's greatness.

It's basically just SC1 with updated (and more cartoonish) graphics. It doesn't really bring anything new to the genre. It'll probably be fun for a while, but don't get your hopes up or suckered in by the advertising hype.

I know, I don't like how Blizzard made the stuff look like that. But remember, a game is not good just with amazing graphics, its really all about the gameplay. Don't worry, I am sure will get used to the new look.

I hope they will make it look better with their two latter expansions.

Maybe they just wanted to get their sequel out there and THEN work on the look of the units and buildings.

I could care less about the graphics, I'll still play ACSII games if they've got fun gameplay or ideas. I guess I should have made my main point clearer. It fails to bring anything really new or innovative to the genre, and considering how long ago SC1 was made (close on 10 years now? something like that), they've had an awfully long time to generate some fresh approaches but simply revamped the original game instead.

It'll get talked up as an amazing game, and the reviewers will likely be coerced/pressured/bribed into saying as much, but ultimately it doesn't seem like anything spectacular from what I've played of it.

For an example of an RTS which tries something new for a change, have a look at Achron. That will probably almost vanish under the radar though as it won't have Blizzards marketing machine behind it. They've managed to incorporate time travel into their engine, even for multiplayer games. Different people can play the same game at different points in time, you can literally go back to the past and alter things then, which will propogate into future events. It's even possible to create a grandfather paradox if you time everything just right.

IMO, I think Blizzard did a great job at bringing in new things which I think will def. make the game more enjoyable than the first one (I still think the first one is quite enjoyable).

How ever, I do agree with you that it is more of a revamp of the first one. Well, the terrain does look good.

One thing I don't like, is their spin crawlers. They greatly reduced their attack from 40 in sc1 to 20 with +10 vs. armor, I believe.

Can you just answer the below question for me to hopefully alleviate some fears about this game:

Another thing is. I don't like is how some units have base damage and does bonus damage against certain unit classes. Won't that take away what made the original starcraft great?
