Yes, a katana is a "two handed sword". But it is not a "two handed sword" in the sense that it is not a part of the category of commonly understood two handed swords.

If you want to play semantics, then you're free to play with the zeds, hahah.

You are making the assumption that the person in question has a masterwork katana which is highly unlikely given the expense required to obtain such a weapon.

Furthermore, that is also assuming the blade is at the optimal sharpness, which only lasts for the first cut. Microdamage is done to the edge of a blade after each use which causes it to become dull. You may get a few cuts through some zombies, but it'll become more and more difficult throughout a battle. You'll have to spend a good deal of time properly honing the blade after each battle to keep it in working order.

On the flip side, my staff will still be breaking zombie necks while you're busy honing your katana.

It is a good thing that the zombies aren't going to be shooting at us, right? And that we aren't going to be trying to do anything moronic like block bullets shot at us by raiders, eh?

Also, provide a citation for your claim if you want to claim it is proven. I'd love to see the work done to "prove" such a claim.

like 500g/1pound. there are also special heavy versions (2-4pounds) for war.
Where are you getting the data on weight? I doubt you're going to find a katana under two pounds, and a "special heavy" version is more likely a Ōdachi, which is going to be surely massive indeed.

Besides that, though, again: The sharpness of a blade is only important on the first cut. Where a katana normally shines, which you seem to have overlooked, is that they hold edges exceptionally well and can be honed back into working order without too much work right on the field.

Your opinion is extremely biased, surely based upon the "squee!" factor of katanas, hah hah. They are very good weapons, yes, but given the context of this situation you'd be better off mounting the katana on the end of a pole and using it that way, as the katana is too short (short means close to the zeds, which mean within grapple range. You may want to think you're a good enough swordsperson to avoid being grappled by zeds, but that's the type of thinking non-survivors have).

But if you want a katana, go for it. Get a masterwork properly smithed one now before you need it, assuming you don't already have one, and make sure to practice. Keep the materials to hone the blade yourself, and try and have access to sharpening materials as well when it becomes time to do a real touch up. And be prepared to use your tanto when you're grappled and about to be bitten.
