LitDarkness and I had a little argument about which pet is better: a dog or a cat?

He seems to think the answer is obviously the dog.

I, on the other hand, know that.... eh... thinks that it's cats.

So who is right?

To settle this we both made a list of arguments. We have not read each others arguments before posting. Please vote for the one who you think is right!

So vote for the winner! The loser will have to to write a blog about why cats/dogs (so the winners preference) are awesome!

LitDarkness says dogs are better than cats because:

1. Playfulness-Who heard of a playful cat? Dogs will play with you all the time.
2. Walks-A dog is always willing to go for a walk while a cat won't even bother. Even my 16-18 year old dog will go for a short walk.
3. Willing to Meet People-A shy dog will even come up and meet people. Cats just hide.
4. You always know where the dogs are at-Cats wonder around but, the dogs will always be somewhere in the house.
5. Allergies-A lot of people are mildly or more allergic to cats but dogs you are much less likely to be allergic to, which means more cuddles.
6. Bathroom-Dogs go outside or on walks while cats use a litter box. You still have to clean their poop but, it isn't in the house to stink.
7. Claws-Dogs claws in my experience seem to be much less sharp than cats. People declaw cats (which I'm against but, that's for another day) here due to how sharp they are. No one thinks dogs claws are unreasonably sharp.
8. Ease-Dogs are easy to keep satisfied by being near them and walking them. Cats would rather you leave them alone until the liter box needs cleaned or they need fed.
9. They don't attack your jewelry-Have you ever had a stringy bracket. I do and cats will take it as a toy and bite it while it is on your rest while dogs realize it's jewelry and not bite it.
10. Protection-A dog will guard a person or house with their life and even warn you when it does not like someone and won't let you be alone with that person if they can help it. This includes if someone is on the street and suspicious to the dog, where they growl and pull you further away from the threat or alert you with barks to someone snooping around your home.

Jaro says cats are better than dogs because:

1. Cat's are cleaner. They will always wash themselves all over whenever they get the chance and they do not smell.
2. Cat's are independent. You don't need to give them attention all the time. Cat's go their own way. If they want your affection, they will ask for it (which, believe me, they will!)
3. Cat's are quiet. Never will you have to deal with an angry neighbor who is getting sick of all the barking.
4. You don't need to hold a cat's paw when they need to poop. A cats pooping is none of your business and they will clean it up neatly too!
5. Cat's are predators. They will keep your house free from mice, spiders and other pests. They are great bug-busters, keeping all those creepy crawlers at bay.
6. Cat's will show much more physical affection. They are generally smaller and softer. They will cuddle with you, butt their heads against you and who can resist the sound of a cat's purr?
7. Cat's are generally smaller. They don't need a lot of space and are thus much more convenient to keep, especially in a smaller home: like an apartment, a van or an iglo.
8. Cat's are prettier. No, this is not subjective, it's fact. All cat species and breeds look awesome! (Well except for maybe a Sphinx cat, but who wants to see a hairless pussy anyway!?)
9. Cat's are cheaper to own. Yes, some fancy breeds can be expensive to buy but adoption fees for cats and kittens tend to be lower. You can also often get them for free. There are no taxes for owning cats and they make do with less food as well!
10. Cat's are lazy and isn't that great because you are too! Dogs have way too much energy and you always need to walk with them and keep them entertained. A cat will just have a nap or actually indicate when you should have a nap!

You can train a dog, not so much with cats, you don't hear of guide cats...... Dogs can be useful more than cats.

Dogs will generally come when you call them, cats only come if they feel like it lol

Cats all the way, they're cuter and clearly you've never seen kittens if you don't think cats are playful. Princess Jessica's cat is getting older but is still a kitten at heart...albeit chasing that string considerably slower. She's allergic to cats and still has one...that's how good they are (or how silly Princess Jessica is...make your own mind up on that ).

Dogs are more active which will increase your exercise and overall fitness and health and you can't have a cat guard your home or child! Plus we have police dogs, army dogs, guide dogs, sniffer dogs, tracker dogs...I never heard of a cat doing any of those!

Guide miniature horses are actually one of the more preferred since they live longer than dogs and cats.

But my vote is for cats all the way. Cats are very selective about who they choose to show affection towards. Any cat owner knows it's an honor and real accomplishment to be chosen.

well this is easy, has to be dogs! Dogs can read people's emotions, our dog would always know when I was down and wanted company or if I was upset. He always looked so happy and excited whenever I came home. Cats you can't really tell with.

I really don't think cats do that to the extent that dogs can.
