you are only able to edit threads for i think three days and posts maybe a few hours.

What do you mean by "posts"? I heard, that you can edit any post (regardless if it starts a thread or is an answer) in the forum for 96h. Then it locks in.
Blog-posts are edit-able forever.

But I am not sure either about the number. Just read RiskyFlame mentioning it.
