Sickening naked misuse
Now that title got your attention!
Naked does not mean nude. It can do, but it has a broader and more general application. A lot of the posts here might better use nude instead. Not that that is really sickening; just a little annoying. Here is one that does make me vomit. Disinterested. It does not mean uninterested! The meanings are not even close. There is no overlap. In fact, disinterested is partly opposite in meaning to uninterested, because you can't really be disinterested without having some interest. (OK, so I have not seen disinterested in a post at getdare. But it is everwhere else. Even reporters misuse it for god's sake. Shouldn't they know better?). * Starts to rave about regular and decimate too, but froths at the mouth too much. Falls off soapbox * |

I'm right there with you on "decimate."
And don't even get me started on the signs at the supermarket that say "10 items or LESS." Those give me shivers, they're so wrong. |

I think that you're vastly overrating many people's language skills. Many don't care about the difference between you and u, or your and you're. Asking them to learn the definition of disinterested may be pushing it.

I tend to see either word around here(naked/nude) and I want to even find out if a person is old enough to do such things and I haven't even read the thread yet.
Grammar Nazis are fun to talk to.

P.S. Oh look, they're actually synonymous.
Nude - 1. naked or unclothed, as a person or the body. Naked - 1. being without clothing or covering; nude

To be fair, generalisation has allowed for slight language change. I'm a descriptivist, not a prescriptivist, so if people used "naked" to mean "nude", fair enough. We all generally know what it means.

By posting this thread, do you mean to insinuate that I should tolerrate such diabolical intolerrance, when your educational capacity is not considerably large enough to comprehend my meaning?

From Wikipaedia
Nudity is the state of being unclothed Naked most commonly refers to the state of nudity Naked does mean nude. This is the original meaning of the word. Language has evolved and the word naked has been used (for effect?) for uses other than its original meaning. ancient brit |

Besides the fact that only grammar nazis really care about this kind of thing. Im not insulting you if your a grammar nazi its your right to be but you have to rember that your in the vast minority (if you werent there would be no english (spanish?) german or any other language derived from latin because wed all be speaking latin and no other language would have evolved) and by attempting to turn everyone else into grammar nazis just makes you look like an ass hole and pisses everyone else off without accomplishing anything so just pretend we all add our periods and commas and keep it to yourself please
and yes i purposly removed all punctuation save the ? (to ask a question) to help prove my point

The only two English words that are truly synonymous are "sedge" and "gorse".
