[Non-Fiction] The Shanghai Girl

This is another account of my adventures while on business travel.

Recently I was in Shanghai, attending a business meeting at our subsidiary there. This was a three day affair, filled with annoying meetings and boring workshops.

When I fly to Asia or to the US, I fly in one day earlier so that I have a chance to get over the jet lag. So I reached Shanghai on a Saturday night, and I had the whole of Sunday to recover from the flight.

So I went to the Shanghai Bund, walked around for a while enjoying the scenery along the bank of the HuangPu river and decided to head to Nanjing Road - the main shopping area of Shanghai.

I walked in to Plaza 353, an enormous shopping mall right at the start of the pedestrian street. I walked around aimlessly, looking in to the shops, when I saw these two young girls standing in front of a coffee bar.

One of them was very pretty, dressed elegently, and sporting an engagement ring on her finger, and her friend was dressed quite casually, nerdy looking, with glasses. Well, I had time to kill, and nothing lined up for the day, so I decided to try a new pick up trick I had thought up.

Most taxi drivers in big Chinese cities hardly speak any English. So the hotels give out address cards to foreigners so that they can show the card to the taxi driver when they want to be brought back to the hotel.

So I walked up to the girls, and asked if they spoke English. Like most of the young people in Shanghai, they did. So I told them that I had lost the address card to my hotel, and whether they could write down the address of Pullman Shanghai South for me.

The nerdy girl immediately did a search on her phone and found the address. Then she asked me if I had a piece of paper and a pen. I pretended that I didn't and asked her whether she could transfer the location to me on WeChat.

WeChat is the second most popular instant messenger in China, made by the same company that makes the most popular one (called QQ). Unlike QQ, WeChat is available in English as well, so foreigners who travel to China use WeChat. A lot of English speaking Chinese also use WeChat.

I opened up my WeChat barcode and she scanned it with her phone, adding me. Then she sent me the location. So now I had her as a WeChat contact.

I bought the girls coffee to thank them for helping me. I chatted up the nerdy girl (the fact that she had WeChat intrigued me, because WeChat is used also as a "hook up" method for Chinese girls looking for a ONS with a foreigner).

The nerdy girl (let's call her "Amy"), was 26 and was out with her friend, who was shopping for her upcoming wedding. They had already done the important stuff like the wedding dress and the bridal dresses, and were looking for table decors etc. Amy had no boyfriend, and looked quite shy when she answered that question.

We parted ways after about an hour, and as soon as I got in to a Taxi, I messaged Amy.

I told Amy over WeChat that I had greatly enjoyed our conversation, and she promptly replied back, saying that she enjoyed talking with me too. I asked her if she had any plans for the evening, and she replied that she will have dinner with her friend after they are done shopping.

Since she explicitly closed off the possibility of a potential dinner date (ouch), I just asked her how the wedding planning was going, and whether she was having fun. She replied that it is boring and that her friend is taking forever to make up her mind.

So I suggested that we do something fun - a game of truth or dare. She hadn't done that before, and she was intrigued. We initially started off with truths, starting with very tame ones. Then it escalated, starting from when she asked me how old I was when I first kissed a girl. We moved on to dares, where I asked her to squeeze her right breast over her clothing while they were in a shop, or touch her friend's butt. She complied, and I didn't ask for any proof. She dared me to stand in front of the hotel window in my underwear, and I sent her pic proof without her even asking.


I asked her to describe the panties that she was wearing, and she replied that she has pink boy-shorts with Hello Kitty on them.

I sent a ROFL emoji back, saying I don't believe it. A few minutes later I received an image from her - a close up pic down the waistband of her jeans, showing a blurry pink background with Hello Kitty motive strewn across it. It was followed up with a message saying, "I can't believe I did that in public. OMG"

After she sent me that photo, I realized that the girl who looked so shy and conservative face to face did have a bit of a wild side. My mind was racing, trying to come up with a clever dare to take this to the next level when my phone buzzed again. It was a photo of her friend's butt thrust out while she was bending over to look at something. It was a decent pic, not an upskirt or anything. The photo was followed by a comment, "Do you prefer this, or..."

The next buzz revealed another pic. It was fuzzy, but showed a jeans crotch with a hand teasing the zipper. It was obviously a photo of her own crotch. The message followed, "... this?"

Ok, so the game of truth or dare was over. It had moved on to open flirting. So I responded back, "both... together " (well, I am nothing if not honest, haha). There was no response for a while, and I wondered whether I had blown it. Maybe I pushed it a little too much.

But after about half an hour came back the reply, "OMG! You are so bad!! Hahaha". I messaged back asking whether I had scared her, and she replied that she was trying on a dress. I texted back saying I wished I had been there to see it.

Then the phone buzzed again.

Before I could open the WeChat app to check on the message, the phone rang. It was a call from my office in Germany (the bad thing about traveling to Asia is that the Europeans, who start work 6 hours later, keep bugging you until late in the night). It took a while to get the issue sorted out, and by the time I was done, the taxi had already arrived through the crawl of Shanghai traffic at the hotel.

It was only when I was about to get in to the shower that I remembered the message from Amy. I quickly grabbed the phone and checked the message. It was a photo*. The photo was of her in a changing booth, showing her naked upper body. The dark brown nipple of her right breast was directly staring at the camera, while the left breast was shown in profile. From the backdrop it was clear that the changing room had only a curtain covering the entrance, so it was pretty daring for her to take that pic after all.

There were a couple of text messages after the photo. One was sent immediately after the photo, and asked, "So, did that make your wish come true?"

The second message was a few minutes later, with a self-doubting, "You don't like it?"

I immediately messaged back, telling her that I liked it, and that I admired her courage in taking that pic and sending it to me. Then I asked her how it felt. She replied back immediately and said that if felt scary but exciting at the same time, and that she has never done anything like that. She wrote again, saying that it is probably because I am a foreigner and that she would never do that with someone of her own race.

I asked her where she was right now, and she replied that she just reached home. I said that it's a shame we didn't get more time together, without her friend, and she sent back a wink, with "There is always tomorrow." I immediately followed up on that, and asked her out for dinner the next day, and she immediately accepted.

The next day, I had quite a lot of customer visits, but in between, I asked one of the admins to book a table for two at the Yi Long Court at the Peninsula hotel. It's an exquisite Cantonese restaurant located near the bank of the Huangpu River and famous for its ambience and steamed crab.

Amy was supposed to come straight from work, so I booked the table at 7:30. I got to my hotel around 5:00pm, and before I got changed, I messaged Amy.
