The Start of Summer

Hello, This is a story i started writing years ago, and got a lot of the way through it but never quite finished. I decided ill start posting and if you guys enjoy it maybe ill continue.

Part 1-

It was the last day before the end of term. The year 11s last day of high school! This meant it was the day of the get together in the local park. Almost everyone would be there and heavily under the influence of alcohol. Surprisingly the event never kicks off or ends up in a fight and the school never put a stop to it. The only action they take is through friendly reminders that underage drinking isn’t allowed and that if students don’t want to end the year unable to walk in a straight line, then shame on them. This deterred no one however and the occasion continued to go ahead. For many year 11’s this would be the last time they see some of the people they had spent the last 5 or even 11 years with as they were preparing to move onto college. Ahead of them was the longest summer of their lives and they had zero responsibilities or assignments.

One group of friends attending the event were seven good friends from form 11B. They had been together since the start of year 7 and shared lessons building the bond between them. at weekends they regularly stayed at each other’s houses and didn’t really associate with anyone outside their friendship group. The group was comprised of three boys; Dylan, Matt, and Harry and four girls; Chloe, Milly, Jessica (or Jess for short) and Emma.

Dylan was the best looking out of the three boys. He had brown hair and blue eyes. Spending a lot of time at the gym resulted in his toned physique and powerful legs.

Matt stood tall at 6’1 however resembled a tree more than anything. His legs were long and thin, and he didn’t appear to have any upper body at all however he was proud to say he had a six pack that he put in no effort to achieve. Although not as good looking as Dylan he was still a handsome lad.

Harry could be considered the runt of the litter, he was the polar opposite to Matt. He was short and stubby however loved by the girls in the group for his harmless appearance and his ‘cute’ chubby cheeks.

Matt had known Dylan for years as they’d played on the same football team since the age of seven. They became friends with Harry when he got stuck sitting between them in maths class. The pair made fun of Harry for the first few weeks but came to realise he was actually fun to be around and allowed him into the group.

The four girls had been friends since primary school. Milly and Jess lived on the same road, three doors away from each other. Chloe joined the school a few years later than the rest of the girls when her family moved to the area and immediately felt at home around the rest of her new friends.

The girls were almost the mirror image of the boys, just with an extra member. Milly was Dylan having almost model like features and cascading blonde hair, Jess was Matt being taller then most girls at 5’10 and Chloe was Harry being worse looking then the other girls and bit bigger too. This left Emma without a male counterpart. She wasn’t as good looking as Milly, but didn’t have any outstanding features similar to Jess’ height. She sorted floated around in the middle but the girls made sure she didn’t fade into the scenery.

The two groups formed their alliance when a forth member of the boys dated Jess for a while, meaning the two groups spent more time together. His name was Nathan but he was a dickhead toward Jess, cheating on her countless times. This lead to them breaking up and him being ignored by the boys as he wasn’t nice to be around. He eventually got moved out of their form before getting kicked out of the school permanently. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if he ended up in prison before the age of 21, if anything it would be more surprising if he didn’t.

All seven of the friends were going to the same college as long as they all got the right grades. They decided they’d been together for so long that they didn’t want it to end just yet. Like the other year 11s they spent their last day getting pictures together and signing each other’s shirts, before visiting their favourite teachers and occasionally leaking a tear. As much as they hated the work and formality of school, they loved the people and were going to miss them.

The bell rang to mark the end of the day and they exited through the gates one last time. They had planned ahead and each taken a bag round to Jess’ the day before with clothes and drinks ready for later that evening. Harry’s parents were protective over him so he told them he was going to stay over at Matt’s and play some games with him and Dylan. Of course Matt hadn’t told his mum about this but it had never been a problem in the past.

It took around 20 minutes to walk back to Jess’ house. She lived a luxurious life with both her parents working for huge international companies. Their jobs were demanding and had long hours meaning the group would be gone before they return home however the extra hours payed for four bathrooms and six bedrooms. The house was most certainly oversized for the family of four who lived there (Jess had a younger brother, Tommy who was quite a few years younger). Two of the bathrooms were en suite so the boys set up to get ready in one bedroom and the girls in the other. They took turn to have showers and get ready even tho it would be pitch black and no one would be able to tell. Unsurprisingly the boys were ready well before the girls so they loaded Mario Kart and had some fun whilst they waited. They were getting to the park at 6 and they still had a few hours to kill so Milly made them all some food with the help of Dylan. She lived with her grandma as her parents had passed away when she was young in a car crash. Being an only child resulted in her spending a lot of the time helping her grandma in the kitchen and she was considering a culinary career.

Once they had finished their meal they all helped to clean up and had a small Mario Kart tournament which ended very competitively. Die to his parents disallowing him access to video games Harry came last losing every race even against the computer. Next was Emma, then Milly followed by Dylan. The final was between Matt and Jess on rainbow road! Jess took an early lead as Matt went flying off the course on the first turn, but a few rocket boosters and Matt was close behind. As they final lap came to a close, Matt unleashed a blue shell stopping jess in her tracks allowing him to stroll to victory. Obviously, he rubbed it in Jess’ face who refused to speak to him after the race.

“Its almost six!” exclaimed Emma prompting the group to set aside their Mario Kart related quarrels and leave the house.
