I kinda like that one, if only it weren't so creepy in English . If you're interested I think a good English equivalent would be "testing the waters", e.g. "...the two of you are 'testing the waters with' each other, slowly (and, to some extent, shyly) exploring the kinks of the other...".

It's a poor gamble though... the expected value is -15 at best. There's really no reason to ever take this risk as it currently stands.
