I won't be able to join the chat (as apart from unsuitable time, I also don't use gD chat for privacy reasons)

But having watched the series and several reruns over the years I do want to share some of my favourite episode moments (in Q/A format) and they might be some interesting areas of discussion. If it is not allowed to post here prior to the chat, mods please feel free to delete this post and sorry for the inconvenience!

What is your favourite Phoebe (the lady who sings truth) song?

Now grandma's a person that everyone likes
She bought you a train and a bright shiny bike
But lately she hasn't been coming to dinner
And last time you saw her she looked so much thinner
Now your mom and your dad said she moved to Peru
But the truth is she died and someday you will too

One awkward friends moment that you can relate to?

In one of the later seasons when Ross and Mike had to spent some time together in the "land where the time stands still". Prior to the meet Ross had thought about what he had in common with Mike and could talk about. I can relate to this kind of social situation as being reserved I often can't engage in small talk and sometimes plan it out!!

What is your all time favourite dialogue?

"They don't know that we know they know we know" by Phoebe when Monica and Chandler were trying to hide they were dating

Which qualities of which friends do you have?

planning and organisation skills of Monica
social ineptness of Chandler or Ross
courage and values of Phoebe
haircut like Rachel's
(but Joey is still my favourite character, maybe opposites attract)

Which is your favourite cameo?

when Brad Pitt shows up as Will from high school and talks about I hate Rachel club and that they had spread the rumour about her having a teenie weenie

Which episodes did you find most boring and could relate the least to?

when they showed friends in flashback of when they were in high school and everybody had weird hairstyles

Which episodes did you enjoy the most?

The trip to a convention in Barbados was a blast
closely followed by an episode in one of the earlier seasons where the apartment was on bet and Ross conducted a quiz to decide upon the winners

Who seems to be the most unnecessary or uninteresting side character?

Janice. Oh my God!

Which episodes made you most emotional?

The ones when Rachel was leaving for Paris and Ross chasing her at the airport (the last few episodes). The end of the series with six set of keys on the table was perfect, got me teary eyed.

While there is no doubt all the six characters were brilliantly written, do you still feel any one character was given less importance than they deserved or could be portrayed better? If not, still describe the one character and their life journey you like the best and why?

Phoebe's character was brilliantly written or developed as the series progressed. She had a less than ideal childhood, survived against all odds, did not crib as much about her past and lost opportunities and was still always enthusiastic to learn new things like she once joined the book club. Imo the character is filled with life skills, values, optimism, so much we can learn from but as per my perception, as an audience most of us thought of Phoebe as a side character (or at least as one of the less important friends) and focussed mostly on her quirkiness contributing to the comedy.

PS: Thanks Butterfly for conducting this, writing the above just pleasantly refreshed my memory of the TV series and I couldn't help but sing the title song "I'll be there for you" the entire time that I was recalling and typing!
