Of course Alex was not the only one interested in Liz. Sam especially was struck by her, with reason. She stood 5' 10", broad shoulders and big build, bigger than quite a few males, straight light brown hair, shoulder length, and for a top wore a rugby shirt with the colours and logo of Hawick R.F.C., as also did Peter (also big built), who'd often called her 'Teri', as she did him: the significance of which was totally lost on Sam (who was originally from Wolverhampton), and indeed all the others except Jane who had an aunt she often visited in Kelso.

Sam and some of the others wondered if she and Peter were an item, or just good friends; or maybe Liz was a lesbian he thought. She'd given no indication, nor had Peter.

Jane was struck with Liz too, though rugby was not her sport (though the Uni did have a women's rugby XV) : at school she'd played hockey and had also joined the Uni hockey club with a view to aspiring to the Uni women's first XI: she had a cousin in London who'd played for Southgate.

But Jane's main eyes were on Tom, and vice versa.
