OP, you do have some good points, you know. I, too, dislike some of the ways things happen, such as "TRASHED" sometimes appearing so big and bold. It's like... just do it, there's no need for a fuss.

The other forum I visit is admittedly larger but, as you say, things are done quietly. As in, a mod may delete a thread and will then PM you about it. Just a small example. I know not every site works the same but I know what you mean and there is a "status" thing going on here at times.

The thing that annoys me most is when a thread gets locked with no apparent reason. A small "Locked for _____" would suffice, but sometimes they're just locked and you're left with the feeling (intentional or not) that a mod's closed it because they just don't agree.

And I really get the feeling this thread will be locked with the message "If you have issues with how the site is run, please contact a forum moderator/Depp"
