While rather uninspiring, pens are a good easy way of measuring progress. Choose a day, say a Sunday, and insert as many pens as you can. After training all week, insert as many as you can on the next Sunday.

If it is more, then you have a clear visualisation of progress. Repeat this over the course of the year.
