Cancelling a paid subscription?

I took a paid subscription to GetDare about a year ago. This was meant as more of a one-time donation than a recurring thing (not out of animosity, but I use the site too sporadically to justify a continued subscription. I have periods where I use the site nearly daily, and periods where I don't visit for months or years at a time...)

A few days ago, I received a notification that my paid subscription was about to expire. I then checked the Paid Subscriptions page in the User CP, and the UI suggested to me that the subscription would expire without automatically renewing:
  • The Expiration date was set to 13 July 2020
  • There were no buttons or links to cancel the subscription anywhere.
So my assumption was that I had already cancelled the subscription sometime last year and thus the renewal wouldn't happen.

However, I just received a notification from Paypal that I had paid another $10 for another year's worth. And indeed, now the User CP says my subscription expires on 13 July 2021...

I'm mostly just curious if I missed the cancellation button somewhere, or if the system just doesn't let you cancel your autorenewals?

I have disabled the automated payment on the Paypal side now, so next year I suspect any attempt at renewal won't go through, but I'd like to double check if I'm just missing something or if this is the only way to go about cancelling the renewals.

I just checked mine and there appears to be no option to cancel.

I'm guessing you have to do it PayPal's side.

You need to do this in paypal its where you manage your auto renewal subscriptions
in the cog > payments > manage automatic payments click view and you should find it in there somewhere.

Sorry I'm late to this thread. You need to cancel subscriptions via PayPal. I'm also always happy to refund anything you are charged (email me at [email protected]). This is not a business and I'm always happy to accommodate folks.

No refund will be necessary :-) But thanks for offering.
