Issues with kik?
 

Is it just me or do you guys also have a problem with kik messenger at times?

With me, it’s a terrible issue: that damned app won’t work on my wifi :/ I’ve tried deleting and redownloading the app (and losing all chats in the process) and it still doesn’t work!

It works perfectly okay on mobile data, wo I have to wonder: Is there some issue with my wifi or the app?

Honestly, if any of you good people of getDare know a way out of this, I’m all ears :)

Never heard of that happening before. I'd guess it must be something to do with your WiFi or isp, assume haven't got adult content restrictions on? (although not sure if that would really effect kik anyway)

I've just been reading on bbc website that kik have announced they are to close the app down 'shortly'.

What will we use now! that will kill half the threads on here!

Also been reports that it is a hoax, so hopefully not going to close!

It seems the shutdown announcement is real, but subsequent stories fanning the flames are dubious.

It's a long established account with lots of other boring Kik company posts - so if it is a fake, they've been playing a very long game!

There is a story that Ted has been sending angry drunk texts. That has been called into question. It's here:

There are some apps that are more phone based than using on a PC. So this could actually be the problem. I tried to install kik on a laptop and it wouldn't work. But I don't have a problem on my pad and that works off wifi most of the time. So I would suggest it is where you have it installed rather than your wifi.

With regards to the post about kik closing, these have round before and it didn't happen, however with the toughening up of the porn laws and sites, I wouldn't be surprised if it did.
Personally I would worry if it started to affect getdare.

I think you can give out usernames rather than phone numbers on Telegram. Maybe that could be a good replacement!

What could be alternatives to kik?
Must be working by usernames, quickly to add new members. Group functionality and vid would be a bonus.

Started slowly switching to telegram.

Ive found that kik at times doesnt push notifications.


As a suggestion for a alternative, Navers Line messenger?

I've started to switch to telegram as well.
To be honest, I felt never entirely comfortable with kik because it doesn't offer end-to-end encryption. Was thinking about switching even before the announcement, now I got a good reason to really do it.

Been looking into a few options, and telegram looked like the best choice. Decent user interface, encryption and privacy options - you need a phone number to set it up, but then you can configure it do everything is handled by username and your number is never shared.
Plus there is also a desktop app for it.
