What does the + sign mean next to a users name?
 

In some user overviews you can see a + next to someone's name. What does this mean?

No, it just means they're friends. Maybe you've got some friends request that are still unanswered or something?

It def means that they are your friend, cannot really explain why it would do that for someone that was not on your friends list

It means they are on your contacts list.
