It says I have eight unread private messages but I can't see any of them.

Have a look if they are friend requests, That could be what it is

yeah GD gives notifications for

Unread Private Messages
Unread Visitor Messages
Unapproved Visitor Messages
Incoming Friend Requests
Unread Picture Comments
Picture Comments Awaiting Approval

If you click on "User CP" on the top left (under the getDare logo) it should list what those notifications are. Feel free to send me a message if you can't figure it out

if for some reason the above doesnt work you can also try going to your inbox and selecting mark all as read. sometimes it’s a ghosty glitch (:
