Battlestrip Exposure

New user here, but long time mostly-lurker who enjoys strip games and seeing people exposed. :)

Recently, with some extra "hobby time" freed up, I've made a little web game that I hope some of the Getdare crowd enjoys. It's called "Battlestrip Exposure". You can find the game here: https://bstrp.exposed/

This is a single-person game for any device with a camera and a modern browser (I tested with Firefox and Chrome), for those interested in both strip games and exposure.

The idea is this: you start out fully dressed (the game supports 3-6 items of clothing). You play a tournament of battleship games against the computer. Each game you lose, you strip off an item of clothing and take a picture. Win enough games, you won't get exposed... but if you've lost your last clothing item and lose again, the picture sequence of you stripping is temporarily posted (you set the exposure length you want to risk) to the game's gallery.

The game has several options to vary things up. The board size is either the traditional 10x10 grid, or a much faster 7x7 mode. There are several levels of game engine difficulty. Along with the public exposure gallery, there is a "private" option (where a code is needed to access the gallery one is exposed to, for a more "controlled" exposure). There is also a simulation mode if you just want to try things out without a camera (or if you don't have a camera at all on your machine).

The game is mobile friendly; the 7x7 mode in particular plays very well on the phones I tested against. (The 10x10 "works", but selecting squares is a bit fiddly on small devices. It'd probably work great on a pad, it works fine on personal computers / laptops).

This is not a commercial game or anything like that, just a hobby project that allowed me to learn a few technical things. :) Along with the Gmail account in the instructions, I'll be monitoring PMs here, so if you have any issues or recommendations or find some bugs, let me know. Thanks.

Looks like a nice game :)

I was just very confused at the first game as this battleship-game doesn't use the usual rules. Wasn't able to find the last ship of my oponent because it's allowed to place 2 ships next to each other. usualy that's forbidden.
And it would also be nice if you (as in the usual game) you have another turn after a 'hit'. That way you'll always have a chance to win. If your last ship is hitten and you still have 2 ships to find it's impossible to win without that rule (not very likely - but possible ;) )

But i realy liked the modes. The privat gallerie is a nice idea and also the 'add on' pics to get a better chance after you're naked.

And (as i'm playing on a desktop-computer) it's very anoying to click after every singel turn of me and my oponent. Make it a 3 seconds delay and better visible where the Computer made its hit and it would be better :)

And what also would be nice: A 'random' button for your ships. When i play online i usualy click random and just move 1 or 2 ships a little bit. That's easyer ^^

Can’t get this to work in any browser for some reason?

There's actually a lot of ways to play Battleship; from what I remember in typical board games I've played, allowing ships to touch (but not cross) is okay, but most of the time (not always) I have played with the ruleset where you get to shoot again after a hit. It's probably a good idea to allow for some of the more common ways to play Battleship when possible, so I'll probably add these modes in the future as a 2nd config page for games (not immediately, but in the next few weeks or so unless I get swamped...). I'll also default to whatever people think should be the best rule set.

Seems to be a common complaint so far. So I probably will adjust this to a 3 second delay or so as a default. There will be an option to bring back the "next turn" button if you want, as it isn't too difficult to do this sort of "either / or" config.

On game setup, the icon on the bottom right(https://bstrp.exposed/docs/img/resizeicon.png) will randomly place the ships. I'll admit that this graphic isn't instantly intuitive; there really isn't a great universal icon for "random" that I know of, unfortunately (the icon I used is often used in music players for "shuffle", but it's not as universal as, say, a check mark). So for the next release I'll probably add text to the graphics icon so it's a bit clearer.

Sorry to hear that. :( The game engine I use for the UI does offer some exports for running out of the browser Android, iOS, and a couple of desktop platforms. Maybe I can provide alternate compiles to help situations where running in the browser doesn't work. If you let me know the OS, I can experiment with this for the next release.

Nice one bstrp! It looks like a great game and works very well!

One thing you might like to consider (although I recognise it's less than fun) is putting some kind of privacy declaration on the site to say what happens to your pics etc. That might help reassure people and get more players.

I like the different options for the exposure part too - that's nice for people who are less brave/foolish :P

ForADare 07-13-2020 07:21 AM

I tried on Chrome and Safari on iOS. I’m on incognito mode, think that makes a difference?

It gets to the loading screen but the bar never fills.

Cameras won't activate in incognito mode, so if you want to play the game with a camera, you will need to use the standard mode. But you should've been able to load the game, play simulation mode, and see the galleries. Strange. I'll see if adding the exports helps.

Robdublin29 07-13-2020 10:59 AM

It worked fine for me on Chrome but I got exposed for the next hour :(

Zippyq 07-14-2020 12:15 PM

Great game! :) Thank you for providing it.
I tried hard difficulty and won quite easily. Then switched to the most difficult one. It didn't end well for me. :D
Would it be possible to implement a counter to see how many people saw exposed pics?

Aeryk 07-14-2020 02:22 PM

Just played this, I love it so much! Thank you for making it!

Sure, I'll add a counter that increments when someone strips you to the list. Going to try to get the "reduce clicking" and other code out by the end of the week (hopefully -- this week's been swamped :/ ) but I can look and see what it would take to get that in next week.

Slave_boy68 07-16-2020 07:41 AM

Good game be good to add the time left on images, like button, and a possible extension button

Spankass 07-16-2020 01:21 PM

Thanks For the Game!

Hay There!

Thanks for making this webste! I its a cool way for single play if no body is around to play.

I share the earlier given feedback that an correct hit should give the same player another turn until a miss
And the continue button could be a self contiue option like after 2 secs or so.

Thanks for you great work!

The time left of exposure is on the upper right hand corner of the gallery. There is a number and a letter (D=day, H=hours, M=minutes, S=seconds) left. Probably I'll make that clickable later and allow you to see more detailed stats.

Although I had less time then I like this week to update, I was able to update Battlestrip Exposure to 1.0.3.3:

https://bstrp.exposed/

The main change is the "click to continue" between turns is gone (unless you really want it). Instead there is a delay between turns. This delay is adjustable by a slider at the bottom of the screen.

If you want the click behavior back, there is a "page 2" of the configuration where you can set this back on.

Other small changes: Added "randomize" to random icon on board setup, and some misc. documentation changes (privacy policy etc.).

Very nice game, I can't wait to see how it evolves. Is there a way to share a link to your exposed gallery if you lose?

mac_777 07-18-2020 03:29 PM

It's pretty easy to defeat the bot even in the hardest mode.

Not at the moment, but a good idea to have... I'll add that to the "to do" list. :)

The game (https://bstrp.exposed/) has now been updated to 1.0.4.4 with this feature! Just click the menu in the gallery, then click "Shareable Link For This Photo". This will provide a URL, which you can share to others. This URL will load the game then go directly to your exposed photo.

Also, a counter has been added to photos. Everytime someone strips you, the counter goes up by one. (The counter has been running since Monday evening as a FYI.)

Finally, a more detailed statistics window can now be toggled from the menu. The main advantage is that this will give both the exact time left until the picture expires. (It also shows the # of times stripped as well.)

There are a few other misc. graphics fixes as well.

mac_777 07-21-2020 08:32 PM

shit lost again, is the hardest mode rigged? :P

jk37 07-21-2020 08:41 PM

Hardest mode is impossible, I won 1 out of 4 games. My post expires in 1 hr

jk37 07-22-2020 06:36 AM

Up for a game this morning

ReluctantExhibition 07-22-2020 01:13 PM

I was exposed badly and am in the public gallery for 1 day 😖

bstrp 07-22-2020 07:18 PM

One more update for Battlestrip Exposure (https://bstrp.exposed/) for today. This adds in a mode where, if you hit a ship, you get an additional turn. Because this seems to be the mode people tend to expect, this is now the default mode. If you prefer the old one turn at a time way, just go into "Game Configuration" and set "take another turn after a hit" to "No."

MTN016 07-23-2020 03:08 AM

Nice game!

It should maybe be more clear that you have to click the pic to strip the player. I first kept clicking the arrows because they are much more obvious.

maybe also an option to comment on the pictures?

great job!

Spacero 07-24-2020 05:47 AM

It would be fun if it would be possible to play against other players instead of just the computer.

Maybe also sort of a semi-exposed mode, where you don't get directly exposed in the gallery, but instead your pictures get into a seperate pool. A pool that could be used in Player vs Computer matches, so that the computer would use these pictures to "strip". Then the player would not just play against his own exposure, but also to gain access to other players semi-exposed images.

Adamvd 07-24-2020 07:39 AM

I’m down to play

I've added a little button around the top "Click to strip!" label. So now, you can either click the button or the picture.

I did have a thought on a sort of variation on this, that would actually fit pretty neatly into the code so probably won't take long to implement. This would be something like a "personalized" game, where you play a game to reveal pictures... kind of like that "create your own 2048" game that was floating around at one time. It would provide a different "exposure" mechanism, and would work something like this:

A) Player A sets up pictures showing a strip sequence, and sets up certain parameters for games.

B) After setting things up, this generates a couple of links. The first of them is a "game" llink. If Player B opens the game using this link, they will jump directly to a game of battlestrip. Every round they win, they see the next sequence of Player A's pictures. If they win the tournament, they see all of Player A's pictures.

C) Player A could, depending on what is desired, set the game up so that a camera is required or not for Player B's games. If a camera *is* required, then when playing the game, you risk being exposed to Player A. That is, if you lose, your pictures are placed in a special gallery that only Player A can see.

D) There is a second link for Player A that would allow the player to manage whether or not the game is active, see the win-loss record, and also (if cameras are required) see the pictures of who won and saw your pictures, as well as the people who lost and are now exposed for your enjoyment.

Not sure what people think of this idea, let me know if you think it's good, bad, or indifferent. :)

Fuck I keep losing

crunksy 07-29-2020 11:21 PM

"Slow" won't start

Hmm, anyone else finding the game won't start if 10x10 grid is selected? I am - I've tried both Chrome and Firefox. ETA one I've set up the settings, the Play Game button doesn't do anything. If I switch back to 7x7, the Play Game button works again and advances to the next screen.

Yes, there was a bug. :( I went ahead and fixed that, it should work again.

I also added a button that allows you to play a single round of battleship against the AI without any of exposing part, in case you want more of a game just for fun.

erdiadu 07-31-2020 08:57 AM

I played earlier and lost. 20 more hours in the public gallery. This is fun.

crunksy 07-31-2020 05:33 PM

still

Nicely done - it's working again. I did have to clear the browser cache for the bstrp.exposed domain to get it to load the new version.

This would be REALLY fun - I love the idea that player A is kinda risking exposure, but also, it's like a challenge for player B who might just embarrass themselves :P

atownesq 08-01-2020 10:08 AM

I actually won playing on the hardest level, but it came down to the last game. I like the one on one idea too.

exsuberman 08-01-2020 11:52 PM

A few improvements I thought of:

1) An option to make the player gets exposed for each loss they got, IE if they lose 2 rounds the first 2 pictures get posted, instead of only if they lose and get completely stripped. (I hope that makes sense)
2) Something to prevent the player from backing out. If they lost up to a certain round if they just close the game instead of finishing it off all the pictures provided up to that point get exposed for their gambled time length.
