Sciencegal's Riddle Thread

Hello, and welcome to my puzzle thread. I decided to make this after enjoying so many great threads in the past. These puzzles will be a sort of cross between a riddle and a crossword puzzle, so you won’t need any sort of extensive knowledge in any particular subject. But it might help to do a bit of research if you get stuck ;)

The rules are based on PacifierGirl's Puzzling Escape Thread. Anyone wishing to play may do so by posting a rule they must follow until the completion of a certain number of puzzles (you decide the rule and the number of puzzles you would like to lock in for). Choose any rule you like to fit your current situation/kinks. Make it as difficult or easy as you want.
For example, “I lock in for 3 puzzles. While locked, I will not masturbate”
or, "I will join for 1 puzzle and I will spank myself 20 times a day until the puzzle is solved."

I think it's more fun to solve these as a group, but you are free to try it individually if you like. Only 1 person needs to answer the puzzle correctly for it to count. Once a puzzle is completed correctly, everyone will reduce their time locked in by 1.

If at any time you decide that you need a hint for a particular clue, you may ask for one. However, if you would like me to provide a clue, someone must volunteer to add an additional rule to their list for the remainder of their time locked in. I will only provide 1 clue by this means once a day. After all, there are no free lunches. If I am feeling generous and you seem genuinely stuck, I may decide to provide 1 additional clue each day.

If after 5 days the puzzle remains unsolved, I will solve it for you. This will not reduce your time locked in though. You will still remain locked in for the same number of puzzles that you started that one with.

Have fun, and if you have any suggestions for improvement, feel free to send them my way!

Puzzle 1

Puzzle 1: I was an inspiration for a famous titular movie character. Who am I?

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

I will provide you with clues that will lead you to the titular character. Additionally, I will provide 3 separate clues that will lead you to the inspiration of that character. Sounds fun, right?

Each clue will be a link to an image. From this image your job is to fill in the blanks. Some clues are easier than others, and some will be a combination of 2 words. All 6 numbered clues will lead you to the title character of the movie, and clues A – C will lead you to the inspiration.

I lock in for 1 puzzle. While locked I will not wear underwear

sammyy2qt 01-01-2018 11:58 AM

Locked in for 5 puzzles, while locked in I'll do 10 minutes of corner time everyday.

SeaFlower 01-01-2018 12:02 PM

I lock in for 2 puzzles.

While locked in I can have only ruined orgasms.

nina@ 01-01-2018 12:06 PM

I lock myself for 1 puzzle and will use my vibe every night for 30 minutes before sleeping till this one is solved ;)

nina@ 01-01-2018 12:15 PM

ok, since sciencegal mentioned we can do it collectively

some first guesses
2) THIRD for third dimension z axis / POINT ??? idk
3) is BLANK
4) programming language blueJ??
6) looks like nokia 3310?? did a reverse search for the fish - it is Moray Eel of phylum chordata

SeaFlower 01-01-2018 12:41 PM

A: deep sea ?!

C: Genus (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species)

gorgeouswhore 01-01-2018 12:43 PM

The second word for B is pod, as in pea pod

B first half could be amphibian as frog is one and second part pod so
AMPHIPOD - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphipoda

Image 2

I'm impressed, you guys are doing great. I realize that image 2 is a little hard to see, so here is an alternative image to help out. I just put it on a white background so it's more obvious what the arrow is pointing at.

nina@ 01-01-2018 12:59 PM

hmm.. is this an animated movie character or some deep sea diver/biologist/marine idk..lol

sciencegal 01-01-2018 01:01 PM

The movie is one that most would know or have seen. I did not choose a random film or nature documentary that only I would know ;)

gorgeouswhore 01-01-2018 01:01 PM

Could be something along the lines of little mermaid...

MarvHarvey 01-01-2018 01:05 PM

I will join for one puzzle.
I will wear only thongs for underwear until we solve it.

sciencegal 01-01-2018 01:05 PM

I will add that not all of your guesses are correct so far.

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:11 PM

I'll lock myself in for five puzzles with fifty spanks every morning.

I think the first picture is masquerade. Mask - ER and I don't know what the last picture is but it fits, right?

1: masquerade

2: point?

3: blank

4:

5:

6: ???

A: deep sea

B: amphipod

C: genus

MarvHarvey 01-01-2018 01:12 PM

#2 is probably POINT
it might be SPACE but less likely

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:18 PM

We might want to figure out what we're actually trying to work out, as it's unlikely we'll get every word. If it's the first letter of each world which would mean that 2 probably begins with a vowel.

EDIT: Maybe we should be looking at the names for some deep sea amphipods? Specifically the genus

nina@ 01-01-2018 01:19 PM

bluej is not 4 letters...

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:22 PM

Pretty big breakthrough, I think. I found this article:

https://www.livescience.com/18287-su...-deep-sea.html

which refers to a deep sea amphipod called Alicella gigantea.

So Alicella may be the genus that gives us a clue.

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:31 PM

Reverse image searching #5 has led me to this page: http://www.alexanderwild.com/Insects...ungi/i-MKH9vLD

unilateralis is the only 12 letter word I can find that's half-relevant as I'm pretty sure the arrow is pointing at the fungus. (Hope this isn't considered cheating, I always considered anything as fair game in my thread but I understand if you see it differently, sciencegal)

gorgeouswhore 01-01-2018 01:31 PM

It may make a full sentence or expression, for instance if "point blank" is right next to each other, that's a phrase.

I think perhaps "blank" was used above as a description not an answer?

Ah my fault, sorry

sciencegal 01-01-2018 01:34 PM

Using reverse image search is perfectly fine with me. You probably need it for the clue you are referencing, possibly others.

But I will say that you may need to think a bit more abstract for some of the clues. The answer may not always be exactly what the image is.

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:35 PM

Nah, Nina seemed confident it was blank. I think it's either black or blank. Could be empty, if that fits.

Currently, the only one that I'm 100% dead set on is masquerade. I think our A, B and C are right but I'm not confident that Alicella is the correct takeaway, unless we want to be looking at Alice in Wonderland characters?

1: masquerade

2: point?

3: blank? black? empty?

4: hard? blue? acid?

5: unilateralis?

6: ???

A: deep sea

B: amphipod

C: genus

Keeping up with the Science-y themes, the Not Basic could be Acid! Not sure what the Narwhal has to do with it but it fits.

nina@ 01-01-2018 01:39 PM

no i am not confident about the answers.. they were just my first thoughts or guesses

did sciencegal say we are looking for first letters.. could be a sentence or a bunch of associated words

also she is saying we should be more abstract - is she referring to our point and blank guesses

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:40 PM

For the point, I'm sure there's some Mathsy word for the highest point in the Z axis that's 5 letters.

EDIT: Alternatively, it's the existence of the z axis that makes the graph 3D rather than 2D. Perhaps SPACE could be the answer we're looking for? I'm not too confident in that, though.

MarvHarvey 01-01-2018 01:43 PM

Is a masquerade a deception?
Wasn't there a surfing movie called Point Blank where an FBI agent was undercover?

SeaFlower please help with the Mathsy terms

I’ve been lurking on this thread for about an hour but screw it.

I’m in for one puzzle and can’t say no to any dares within limits until it’s solved

Anyway, 1 is NOT masquerade

It’s referencing Hannibal Lecter (that’s his mask) and his relationship to Clarice Starling.

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:45 PM

Ah, that's right. Damn, Masquerade felt too good to be true lol. What word are we looking at then?

A pretty massive clue we should maybe be looking at is movies with a character in their title. We know it's a movie that a majority of people will know, we may be able to force out an answer - especially if it's based on the first letters of each word, which it may not be.

scguycola 01-01-2018 01:47 PM

It’s 10 letters so...

Psychopath?

scguycola 01-01-2018 01:52 PM

I feel like the three clues for the inspiration are essentially saying it’s a deep sea crustacean

PacifierGirl2 01-01-2018 01:53 PM

I think the Genus is the especially important part though as it says that it's specifically the genus of a deep sea crustacean. But even then sciencegal just says that that means we'll be in the right area

1: something Hannibal Lector related. Psychopath?

2: point? space?

3: blank? black? empty?

4: hard? blue? acid?

5: unilateralis?

6: ???

A: deep sea

B: amphipod

C: genus

scguycola 01-01-2018 01:58 PM

I keep thinking 6 is electric eel but the lettering wouldn’t match up unless it’s electronic eel

Really multitasking atm lol

'Height' is 6 letters, maybe 'depth'.

'Point' first and 'Space' second choice though

I think this one will be clear while put in context with others

That one is really hurting my head. I feel like the "part of each" implies that it doesn't include the entirety of each word, so I don't think the word is actually eel - otherwise it would just show the phone and the eel, right? idk

scguycola 01-01-2018 02:01 PM

Yeah, I think it’s safe to say that it’s “point”

If it was space, it wouldn’t be pointing to a specific coordinate
