Twelve Freaking Days!

Posted 07-24-2017 at 08:53 PM by The Slutty Princess

I am freaking out! Twelve days until I cry my eyes out while I walk down the aisle! Today, we finished the last of our wedding planning, and arguably the best part of the wedding planning process; cake testing and selecting our songs!

We had planned on consulting a bakery within the city, something that had been recommended to us by a friend. This bakery had made their wedding cake, in which Sam and I had gotten to try when we attended their wedding, and it was beautiful and delicious. With me on the cake testing adventure was Sam, my mother-in-law-to-be, and my mom.

Once we arrived, we were escorted to the back of the bakery and took a seat at a small round table. As the bakers prepared our samples of the various flavors of frosting and cake batter, we paged through the albums of cake designs on the table. Sam and I had already found a cake design on Pinterest that we really liked but we thought we’d page through the other designs that the bakery suggested before we made our final decision. After talking over our options and prices, and showing the baker a design of the cake we’d like, he brought out a tray of eight different cake batters, fillings, and frostings. The options to choose from were sour cream pound, orange peach pound, almond pound, pineapple orange pound, chocolate chip pound, lemon pound, chocolate brownie pound, and wild berry pound...all of which were amazingly delicious. The fillings consisted of chocolate, buttercream, lemon, raspberry, caramel, hot fudge, and Nutella. We were also given samples of the different icings, which consisted of whipped cream, buttercream, or fondant icing.

Sam and I aren’t huge of chocolate, so we opted towards more of the sweet and fruity flavors. After tasting all the different icings, fillings, and cake pounds, we came up with our heavenly creation. Using a friends idea, we wanted rainbow colored cake batter, so our first layer was a rainbow colored sour cream pound with raspberry filling, the second layer was a wild berry pound with a buttercream filling, and our last layer was a repeat of the first layer, a rainbow colored sour cream pound with raspberry filling. The cake would be iced with buttercream frosting and would have a red ribbon around the base of each layer with red buttercream roses on each layer as well! I’m pretty thrilled with our concoction and I hope all of our guests enjoy it too!

The final step to our wedding planning was to submit our songs to our DJ. We had debated over what songs we wanted for about a month and they always seemed to change. First, we’d hear a song and think it was perfect but in a few days, we’d find another song we thought was better, but, at last, we finally chose the songs we came to a shared conclusion on.

For our processional song, the song that we will walk down the aisle to, we chose “I Wanna Grow Old With You” by Westlife. We wanted something that was slower but shared the emotions we share with each other and I don’t think we could have picked a better song!

For our recessional song, the song that we will exit the ceremony together hand-in-hand, we chose “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles. We wanted to choose a song that was kind of slow but also had a little bit of energy in it and I couldn’t be happier with our choice!

For our first dance at the wedding reception, we chose to dance to “I Was Made For Loving You” by Tori Kelley featuring Ed Sheeran. The song captures our emotions perfectly and it was the song that we shared our first dance to at our high school senior prom!

For our last dance at the wedding reception, we chose “Every time We Touch” by Cascada...a song the ignites the fireworks and the perfect song to cast away together into the night!

With much love,
~Lia
