High heels are everywhere these days, it seems the allure of wearing heels has spread far and wide. This appeal has led to an array of designs and styles, and indeed colours. Indeed, although the formal black heel with dark stockings is still a staple of many evening attire, or office wear. Actually, funky designs in every colour under the rainbow are now much more common place.
The actual designs are very varied and perhaps if you include variations on design may well number in the hundreds. For this report, however, I will concentrate on some of the designs of the higher heel (as opposed to say low heel designs such as kitten heels), and although this is obviously arbitrary, I am suggesting some of the more sexy design.
I will start with Stilettos. Commonly known as the highest of all heels, the heels are thin and are named after the switchblade knives because of their similarity in shape. Stilettos can be as high as 8 or 9 inches and are very difficult to walk in, practice is needed in order to remain upright in these heels, but the aesthetic appeal of long legs in these heels are the main reason for their evergreen popularity. Often stilettos have a platform toe section in order to accommodate the length of the heel.
This brings us on to platform heels themselves. The platform is part of the shoe and this helps for comfort of wear whilst accommodating a high heel. Fashions vary, but large chunky platforms are currently popular, especially as an evening or party shoe.
So far the heels have tended to be strapless, but the next variant are ankle strap heels. The strap around the ankle makes the heel slightly easier to walk in as it gives some extra support. At the same time there is something alluring about a stocking leg with an ankle strap fastened around it, it suggests an anklet that is part of the shoe, and also hints at a mild form of bondage due to the strap, indeed, heels with straps are often lockable, in that the wearer can be locked into them, I will let your imaginations suggest the connotations of this.
On this theme, Corset Heels are increasing in popularity. In this variant, the upper part of the shoe comes in two parts, these parts lace up in a corset style over the foot and are tied at the top. The shoes themselves are not constrictive like a corset, rather the effect is more visual and suggestive, but that is where the appeal lies.
Finally, there are Designer Heels, or Fantasy Heels, these are becoming more common, and as the name suggests they are almost individual designs of a weird and wonderful nature, but they are very stunning to look at and wear, almost like wearing a piece of art. Often they would be worn by fashion models and pop stars (think Lady Gaga), but obviously there can easily be a kinky element to any design, perhaps with big, bold obvious locks that leave little to the imagination, the person wearing these is submissive or suggesting they are, and they either do not care who knows it, or have had the heels placed on them as part of their punishment.
