To be honest it doesn't really make all that much differnce, seeing as that no one goes round and asks are you having sex, and don't worry it's the same over here anal sex is forbidden until 18, but what they don't know won't hurt them now will it? :p

Technically...if you can find a country where you can adopt at any age...you could be a grandma at ten...I have a dream! But biological grandparent...if the youngest girl to have a baby (and live) is 12 then you could be a grandparent at 24. (grandma or grandpa)

Here I will try not to confuse to confuse you here, but our state in Austrliaa has laws with sex as well.

10-16 - Allowed to have sex on as long as the person is not 2 years older or younger than themselves, not over 16 or under 10

16 - 18 Although this is changing now, it is still if your over 16 and under 18 you cannot legally have sex with anyone under 16 or over 18, but as of last year I think they changed that law to say you could have sex at 16

18+ - legal go for your life.

Porn only over 18+.

So that is the laws concerning this government here in Australia, but then every state is different, and there are some states you cannot have sex until they are 18+, one state if your a guy 16+ is allowed, but 18+ if your a girl, no gay sex until your 18+ for girls and no anal until 18+ for guys. So this is the confusing part of sex laws as there is no uniform rule anywhere in one country let alone in the world.

This is where people can get into trouble coming from other countries where consenting age is different and they are unsure of the rules, so always check the rules and make sure that you are not under the countries rules you left. Here in Australia if I was to go to Canada and have sex with someone under 16, I could still be charged under Australian rules, so make sure if you go from one state to another, or one country to another you are not bound by your own countries rules.

Difference between age you are allowed to have sex and allowed to buy a porn... The point here is if you allow someone to buy porn you could see it as "animating" him to have sex. 14 is the minimum age for sex as long as you are not a ward (teacher for example) and no prostitution
as soon as one person is over 21 the minimum age is 16 (again with the "no ward" and "no prostitution" exception)

The point is to protect children. Would you want your 13-14 year old daughter having sex with a 40 year old? This is what these laws are for. It is not to stop the kids doing things that we as adults can enjoy (although some Christian fundamentalists will say they are), it is to protect the kids from predators and other things that can happen to them out there as they start getting curious.

I think the interetations of the Romeo and Julliet laws posted are probably wrong. With Canadia, if you are 12 or 13 and have sex with someone 5 years younger then it is still a crime since whilst a 13 year olds may be able to consent even with a 9 year old the 9 year old cannot consent. Hence to make it legal both parties have to be atleast 12 and either over 14 or not more than 5 years apart.

My personal opinion is that 16 is a reasonable age but obviously there are lots of people who have sex younger than that.

However, on the subject of stupid laws, there are currently 4 teenagers in the USA (2 girls, 2 boys, all about 13 or 14 I think) who have been charged with sexual offences because each of them posed naked while their friend took a photograph of them using a mobile phone and then sent it to one of the others (presumably the boys took naked photos of each other and sent them to the girls and vice-versa although this hasn't been made clear).
