what is SubSpace? it is a state in which the body and mind is turned on and over-stimulated to the point where extreme levels of pain become pleasurable. the sub enters into a natural occurring trance separating mind and body and it takes a observant Dom to recognize and handle.

according to wiki:
During the scene, the intense experiences of both pain and pleasure trigger a sympathetic nervous system response, which causes a release of epinephrine from the suprarenal glands, as well as a dump of endorphins and enkephalins. These natural chemicals, part of the fight or flight response produce the same effect as a morphine-like drug, increasing the pain tolerance of the submissive as the scene becomes more intense. Producing a sort of trance-like state due to the increase of hormones and chemicals, the submissive starts to feel out-of-body, detached from reality, and as the high comes down, and the parasympathetic nervous system kicks in, a deep exhaustion, as well as incoherence. Many submissives once reaching a height of subspace will lose all sensation of pain, as any stimulus causes the period to prolong.

pretty much the longer a scene goes and the more intense it is the pain is washed over with pleasure. its the same reason most people don't feel major wounds it is closely related to "shock."

Deep subspace may also cause a danger in newer submissives who are unfamiliar with the experience, and require the dominant to keep a careful watch to ensure the submissive isn't placing him or her self in danger. Many submissives require

as with its cousin "shock" incoherence, out of bodynes, and unconscious can occur. please take care of your subs, when subspace occurs do not take your sub to far into it that it causes wounds or brakes limits.

Ive been recently reading up on subspace (recently meaning tonight :p) and while this page came up on google searches for stuff so did this one, It is really interesting and goes into a lot of depth and knowledge.

Some of the stuff really fascinated me, especially looking at BDSM from a psychological point of view. This especially had me intrigued...

Quite a few submissive women confuse orgasm, or even strong (sexual) arousal, with “subspace” - simply because they have no personal experience with orgasms. Global scientific research tells us that - unfortunately - probably as much as one out of every three adult women has never experienced an orgasm. There is no reason to assume these figures any different within the BDSM community. In other words, probably one out of each three submissive women does not know what an orgasm is, hence cannot distinguish the differences between orgasm and subspace and is likely to mistake one for the other.

....

One thing we do know: having an orgasm while in “subspace” is biologically next to impossible!

This is because the hormonal chain of events - leading to subspace - is quite different from the one - leading to an orgasm. In the early stages of the route to both “subspace” and orgasm these chains of events are quite similar. But at some point along the way the body has to make a choice: either go for orgasm, or go for subspace. One excludes the other.

Knowing what it is and using it in any slave/master session are two different things.
