Why is a users sex not shown?

I don't see a users sex displayed anywhere, except if they mentioned it in their signature. Am I missing something or is there a specific reason for this?

Sorry for the newbie question here.

Normally it says so on someone's profile (unless they didn't fill it). For example, if you look on mine and click on "About Me" the first thing you will see is that it says I am female. Other than that it's either they posted it in threads or their signature. Or you can always ask.

To get back on this: it would be really helpful if a users sex can also be shown in the little summary to the left, below the users avatar.

Now, if people don't list it in their signature, you have to go into their profile to find it. Would be great to just see it right there in the post.

I think it would be convenient if they had the pink/blue insignia for male/female in the corner where the post count and such is located. Although I have no idea how they would code that.

Some people don't want to list their sex though. People who are genderfluid or trans or anyone who just doesn't want to deal with that. If someone wants to put it in their sig then okay, otherwise take two seconds to look at their profile.

I think making it a mandatory feature isn't a good idea

I agree with techie, not a good idea in my opinion. You can't assign colours as there are too many variables, people see themselves a.certain way and thats what they are, its not upto a website to decide what we should be limited to.

Also, why does it matter the gender you talk to? We are all here for some fun and a chat I presume, so I personally dont see why it matters.

Just my thoughts.

@techigirl and @scouseslut: I never said that it should be manditory. All I would like is that the field for sex is shown to the left below the avatar. It it isn't filled, that's totally fine. But if it is, I just would like to see it at first glance.

As for why it matters? Well, for certain dares people may need certain parts.
