Eggs should be completely fine as long as you make sure to not have pieces of the shell I'm between.

It may surprise you to know that the 2 liter one has a bottle cap that is exactly than a 500ml one. They don't even have to be of the same kind or brand of soda. They are standardized.

Try it, next time you have both bottles, take the cap from both and screw them into the other one. They will fit perfectly.

The only possible difference would be that you can make bigger funnels with the 2 litter one, but the nozzle side is the same.
