Religious views? - Page 3

As many people already knows but for those who don't know, I am a Christian. My denomination is Catholic. While I do not like some of the changes that they did to the Catholic church in past years, other people may. That's fine. It's all a matter of taste.

Firstly, this is a very interesting thread, hats off to austinchilds10 for having the courage to post it.

As for me, I would fall in the atheist category. I was raised by two catholic-raised parents who did not want to impose any religious belief on me even going to the lengths of having me removed from my religion classes when I was in elementary school. Though this decision is probably what made me the atheist I am, I consider myself open-minded.

I can understand that some believe in a greater power even if they do not know what it is. I have also read on a LOT of religions and find their views interesting. I have great respect for those who have strong religious beliefs, no matter what they are.

Now, I do not wish to cause a flare-up or a debate that gets out of control, but I am going to go ahead and say this. To be completely honest, what I DO have some trouble with is that I find that some religious practices are forced upon non-consenting individuals. The best example I can find for this is the baptism of a baby. I believe that religious views should be a choice and whilst I know that an individual can be "unbabtized" (for lack of a better word) I would think that each individual should be given the choice.

Finally, I must also agree with Jacques with regards to his view on extremists.

I'm open to the possibility that God exists. I don't follow a religion, I don't believe that there definitely is a god and I don't dismiss that it's possible.

It did take a lot of guts to start a thread like this, and for that, I applaud you! I'm glad everyone is being civil about such a touchy subject. I would like to see more of this in real-life situations, then maybe we could actually get somewhere instead of running around in circles!

I'm Wiccan. I follow the rules of Wicca, and I believe that whatever you do comes back 10x. I'm not one of those people who just sits in their room and does spells all day, not at all. I don't wear black all the time either. (Just debunking some common myths.)

I believe in a mixture of my own things. I do find that almost every religion i heard about makes sense though. I'm actually jealous of people whose brother or father or son passed away, and then they're somewhat fine with it because they feel like it's what their god wanted.

I believe that there's some kind of god, but what one? I don't know. I believe in ghosts/spirits, fate, karma and reincarnation, but that doesn't make me believe in a certain god. My ideas are very personal and I am absolutely fine with the fact that others think what I believe in is bullshit.
It's something you have to decide for yourself.

First off, I'd like to say that I really like the idea of this thread and the way everybody has been open and accepting to each others religious beliefs. I was actually surprised to find this thread here. As for me, I'm a nondenominational Christian.

I believe that god or the gods are being/s of energy, life, creation or pure existence. I have read about most religions and they make sense. I have had family and friends die, it would be nice to think they went to a better place but it's not something I am going to dwell on. I don't believe in Karma, That's like saying you believe in luck, I think that luck can only be decided after a situation has been done. I believe in spirits. I read a book where there was a building that housed all religions I think that is wonderful, and I would feel greatly blessed if such a place existed. I think all religions are right. Well, in some way.

I am christian

However I also am into the science and unlike most people think you can use both and have them work together. It is not the typical science vs religion. Infact some of the higher quality teachers who are very knowledgable about their fields are also christian. (this is at a university level, however I see quiet a few of my highschool science teachers at church the odd time too).

So if you are unsure you should actually look into it instead of the skin deep you either believe in science or "out of date religion"
