In one of my past relationships we tried it out, she took a very very thin smooth paintbrush, lubed up the handle and went to work. It was pretty much as thick as my urethra so there really wasn't any stretching or pain. Felt pretty good. I would recommend.

I inserted: a twisted wire (I was young and stupid), toothpaste, a silicone sound, a penis plug.

I want to try: a vibrating metal sound, a sperm stopper, a catheter.

The problem is, my penis tube is very sensitive, I even bleed sometimes from (even safe, standard) insertions.
