Series Six includes:
- Mark Goddamn Sheppard (him off Battlestar Galactica and Firefly)
- Daniel Goddamn Mays (Jim Keats from Ashes to Ashes)
- Marshall Goddamn Lancaster (Chris Skelton from Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes)

Not to mention the Christmas Special stars Albus Dumbedore.

Apparently his episode was meant to be shown this year but it cost so much money the budget couldn't afford it, and they have to move it back a year.

Sounds impressive :P

If one were to now start watchind Doctor Who what season should I get?

Do I need the old ones and what about Torchwood? I know that its a spinoff but should I watch it seperately or will there be continuity problems/spoilers?

I recommend you either start with Series One (Christopher Eccleston) and work forwards, or Series Five (Matt Smith). Both practically start afresh.

Torchwood is pretty much seperate. There are links to the series, but it doesn't need to be watched alongside Who

Yeah, those are the two jump-on points for the new series.

I highly recommend the classic series (it's the same show, not two seperate series' like BSG), but it's not necessary to understand the new one.

Torchwood is seperate, but it's fun to see Capt. Jack get his own show which starts not-bad, is great in series 2 and fantastic in series 3
