The "hair in teeth" argument really doesn't work if the guy trims his pubes and shaves his balls. There really isn't all that much to do in the pubic area generally. I suppose there is the humiliation element to it, the little boy look if you are into that. To keep that masculine look for most guys either keeping the pubes or trimmed does look better I think. There are exceptions though, some guys that already have enough of the masculine look, the build etc. can sometimes look sexy shaved. I would still put them as the exception rather than the rule.
