Edit, a note about the worms, when cleaning them in water (especially if you're putting them in a bowl) be careful you don't drown them! Remember they need to come up from the ground for air when it's raining. Also, I don't think there's any real danger of them actually getting up anywhere you don't want them. If they do it won't be by much.
