A Mean Game – Competition between Girls

1) The Rules

Around hundred students sit in the large hall of the triple kappa fraternity, some of them had just graduated. Most of the audience were males, but a few female guests were present as well. They were watching towards a large screen over a stage in the front, where the master of the fraternity would open the event in a minute or so.

Sitting to the left on the stage were two of the graduates of the fraternity: Alan, a tall, sportive man, and Tim, a less sportive and big boy with a large pair of glasses.

Sitting to the right of the stage were two good looking girls, Sophy and Kathy. They were the best friends of the two contestants standing in the middle of the stage and awaiting the start of the most important event in their live. Whatever the result, it would determine their future at least for the next years.

Paul, the fraternity master raised his voice: “Thank you all for coming here to this spectacular event on this beautiful summer day. And thanks for making this possible with your kind donations and the entrance fee. We have been planning this for weeks, and I am so excited to see it finally happen”

“Our contestants, Sarah and Ann, must be even more excited on what will come in the next hours. As you know, they are form the most rivaling sororities of the college and they are after the same gentleman, our fried Alan over there. He has just graduated and has received an offer from one of the most famous companies on the East Coast. Sick from all the revivalism between Sarah and Ann, he decided to take the winning girl with him and spend his future live with her. This is the final price to win for our contestants.”

“On the other hand, we don’t want to leave the loosing girl alone. That would be totally irresponsible because what happens today will probably destroy her career, given everything she will need to endure and all the video material we will record of them during the event. So Tim, our smart boy, who unfortunately never had a girl so far, agreed to take care of her. Both contestants signed that in case they would lose, they will move with him to his new job Boston, and serve him at home in the best possible way for at least one year. In case they do so well, we would destroy the video material after the year or otherwise release it in any way Tim wants us to do.”

“This is just the final bet. To give a bit more thrill to the event, we have several more rules with immediate gains and forfeits throughout the events. So let me explain the rules in more detail:”

“Anybody in the audience can suggest challenges and forfeits – just write them on the board over there. White papers for challenges, red papers for major forfeits, green ones for minor forfeits.”

He pointed to a wall with a lot of empty papers, some already had text on it. He continued: “Alan and Tim will select any challenge they want, but need to agree with each other what will be the next one. Any challenge will come with a cash price and a forfeit. The forfeit can be immediate, or something to be done later, or both. However, only the final winner will receive the cash prices, and only the final looser will have to do the delayed forfeits. The immediate forfeits of course have to be done at the moment the current challenge is lost.”

“How do we make sure they really do the forfeits? Well, these two beautiful girls there,” he pointed to Sophy and Kathy, “are our hostages for the event. Hostage is a strong word, but this is kind of what they are. In case Sarah or Ann would refuse to perform any of their forfeits, Sophy or Kathy would have to endure them instead. To increase our fun here, there will be additional smaller forfeits for them going along with any of the main forfeits our contestants will have to endure.”

“To be clear: although they are hostages, they are not to be harmed in any way – unless this would be part of a forfeit they had explicitly agreed to in advance. Yet, they are not allowed to leave the premises until the game is over. So now would be the last chance.”

“The motivation of the contestants is obvious. They are into Alan, and they hate each other. But what about the motivation of our hostages? Well, they will get half of any cash prices gained during the game, and they can keep their share even if their best friend would loose and gets nothing. In addition, they have made their own arrangement. I have just heard that Kathy got the key of Sarah’s car as an extra bit of safety.”

“Just one thing left: How does the competition end? Well, there are several ways: First, if one contestant loses four challenges in a row. Second, if one contestant refuses to take part in a challenge or refuses to commit to any forfeit they must do. However, if both contestants would refuse to take on a challenge, then the challenge is not valid, and we will go on to the next one. Third, if any of the hostages refuses to commit to the risk of a potential forfeit. In this case she must still endure all to what she had committed so far. In addition, she would lose any cash earned so far. So for each challenge we will first ask the contestants and then the hostages. Only if all of them agree to the potential consequences, the game goes on with the next challenge.”

When Paul finally finished his long speech, he looked around for questions, and finally asked all the four girls on stage a final time, if they would agree to the rules. They all said yes.
