Okay - so now YOU have a say in what happens! Exciting stuff!
You guys have a few options here, so choose very, very wisely! It affects characters and plot lines and future turns and twists!

1 - The story jumps 4 years until Hannah and Tom are in college and Laura is forgotten
2 - I continue from where I left off exactly I.e. include some grieving and the funeral
OR
3 - I jump a few months after the funeral and grieving and continue from there
