Germany: Least Funniest Country?

I was just watching The Colbert Report (pronounced Col-bear Ra-por), an American political satire show. Stephen Colbert reported that a poll from Baidu said Germany is the least funny country.

Why is that so? Germans defend yourself.

FYI Baidu is a European social networking site so don't claim any American bias or anything crazy like that.

Two World Wars and one World Cup!

Just saying, it might have something to do with it :D

Well i don't think its the least funniest country. At least we don't have speed limit on our autobahn :D :p

As slave1987 mentioned, the two world wars, the nazi regime and several million dead people due those idiots doesnt leave room for much fun - at least from a political and historical point of view.

But for the rest, I think thats more or less a cliché - same exists for Americans from a European or German point of view as well. Question is - what do Americans (or the rest of the world - I am not sure who was addressed in that poll) know about Germany - and I mean Germany, not Bavaria.

A good source of information is this blog written by an American for his German mother-in-law: http://nothingforungood.com/

Have fun - at least I do :kuku:

P.S.: This is a nice start to read - http://nothingforungood.com/2008/05/...-of-the-world/

well the wars was my initial thought but didn't want to believe it because WW2 ended almost 70 years ago. The poll was answered by Europeans, not Americans, and haven't looked at the poll. I will read those blogs soon. And I hate to admit it but I don't know much about Germany other than the wars and Angela Merkel.

There are a lot worse countries than germany. I bet fit is not unny to live in north korea or at the moment in japan...

or to live in saudi arabia as a woman xD

Joking aside, it's just a case of stereotyping. It's like saying that all Americans are fat, all people from Liverpool steal, all French people eat snails and frogs legs.
It's a rather pointless study really, if you ask people who they think are the least funny, they will say the Germans because it follows the stereotype, if you asked people which nationality drinks the most tea they would probably say the British because it fits a set pattern of beliefs.
Just because people think something doesn't make it so.

Don't want to say too much more in case this follows the storyline of South Park and the Germans respond to this thread by building a joke telling robot that wants to destroy the world as the ultimate joke!!

Yeah, I don't believe Germany isn't funny and honestly forgot about that South Park episode which I tnought wasn't funny. My dad was actually stationed in Germany in the early 80s and has some pretty badass stories so I have no reason to believe the stereotypes about Germans.

The German's are snapping at the heels of the english for least funny country as far as I'm concerned.

English comedies are amazing, but the germans are kinda lame when it comes to humor.

South Park in German is hilarious though <3

Define humor then! :D I think that changed a lot in the past decade (so I silently agree on your statement). German humor can be very funny - maybe only for germans though - language related ;)

First off all, what do they mean by saying funny country  A country with clowns all over the streets? You can have a lot of fun in Germany, we have a lot of skinny dipping rivers and seas and its legal here to driver your car naked.

Well many Germans are strict and boring, maybe that's what they meant by saying Germany is boring.
