VR headset

I was thinking about getting a VR headset, but it looks like most of them require a registered program to control them, like Steam. Are there any that will just connect to the computer and run the videos are programs without requiring a registered program? I really don't like the idea of big brother watching what I am viewing.

Thanks, but I am not looking for content, but a headset. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on something if it requires that it be controlled by software that collects data.

You can sign up for steam with a dummy account if you are not going to be making purchases.

I bought a Oculus Quest 2 just before Christmas - this does not need steam. The oculus will run its own games, purchased through the inbuilt store, and allows access to the web for browsing, as well as youtube etc.

It also has the option of connecting to a PC, allowing you to stream content from the PC, as well as use the device in certain PC games, such as some of those on steam + other non-steam games.

The oculus quest is quite flexible in use.

Most VRs tend to work without the need to connect to a PC / Steam. This is the only one I have direct experience with though.
