When I try to rate a thread, I get an error message

I can’t rate any thread or blog lately. This is the error message I get:

“A required field called ipaddress is missing or has an invalid value.”

I’ve tried using a different browser, on my pc, iPad and phone. Still no difference.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Not much help perhaps, but I tried rating this thread and it worked for me.

Have you tried connecting your device to a different network and then rate?

Jaro has the same problem since he moved and I don't know why. I can rate things on his account just fine, but he cant from his home.

Basically, your IP address seems to be the problem. What this problem is exactly; I don't know. Your IP address seems fine so I suggest you clear your browser's cache & cookies. If that doesn't work, try using a free proxy server to temporarily change your IP and see if that solves the problem.

Sounds like some IP verification/check is malfunctioning to me.

You could try rebooting your router to see if that fixes it (might be best logging out of GD first, and even clearing history & cookies).

An educated guess would be that you're using an IPv6 address though and the forum software/plugins are a little out-dated to cope with that. If not being able to rate threads really bothers you that can probably be turned off in your router settings (Google your specific router for instructions) although I'd recommend leaving it as is (assuming it is indeed an IPv6 issue). A nice comment is worth 1000 stars and messing around with router's is way OTT for something so minor, particularly as I'm far less than 100% certain my guess is right.

Otherwise using another network will very likely workaround the issue. A proxy or VPN (I'd recommend Cyberghost as a VPN, no clue about proxies but any free one will do the job) will mimic that nicely if physically using another network is a hassle.

I tried via VPN and that did the trick.
I'm not hugely bothered by it, but sometimes it's nice to rate an outstanding blog or thread. At least I know what to to now, so thanks for your advice.
