What are your top five favourite songs ever?

If you could only listen to five songs for the rest of your life, what would they be?

An easy question with a difficult answer. Because you have to imagine that you will never hear another piece of music other then your five songs for as long as you live.

Now, this is not a thread where you just want to throw up the top five songs that are playing on the radio right now and this is not a mud flinging contest where it turns into a "my songs are better than yours!" type of thread. No, they should be songs that immediately take you back to the best memories of your life, songs that helped you through a hard time or songs that, after all these years, you still love listening to.

If you (can ever) narrow it down to five, explain why you picked those songs as well.

For me, it has taken a long time pondering this, so you might want to think it over for a while yourself. Anyway, my five favourite songs that I could never go without are (in no exact order):

Talk - Coldplay Reminds me of my brother.
509 - Hans Zimmer The most emotional song I have ever heard.
I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls The best driving song and it just brings back really good memories.
My Father's eyes - Eric Clapton Another song with great memories and reminds me of my relationship with dad.
Suite for Solo Cello No. 1 in G Major - Yo-Yo Ma It's such a peaceful and relaxing song and I love the sound of cello music. I could just close my eyes listening to this and all my stress is gone.

1. The Pretender By Foo Fighters: Just a perfect song imo
2. Lose Yourself By Eminem: A perfect rap song, first rap song I liked.
3. Hero of War By Rise Against: Bueatiful song, depicts war well.
4. Living on a Prayer By Bon Jovi: So many memories with this one
5. NY NY by B.o.b. Took me like 2 months to find this song, its only 2 minutes and leaves me craving more.

Bleed it Out-Linkin Park
It should be a little depressing, but brings back great memories for me.

100 Years-Five for fighting
This song is so beautiful. It makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time.

1000 miles-Vanessa Carlton
beautiful song, beautiful memories of some family that I used to be really close to, and havn't seen properly for 5 years. I miss them.

Raise your glass-P!nk
Amazing song, means alot to me.

The White one is evil-Elliot Minor
(The title has been changed due to racist impliocations, but I can't remember what to as this is the version I have)
Yet again, great memeories of times I miss.

A testament to willpower and drive and well written to boot
4.)Fuck You - CeeLo Green
Awesome Writing + Awesome Melody = CATCHY song
3.)Take a Chance on Me - ABBA
Call it a guilty pleasure but this song just makes me happy. I think it's the catchy hook in the background.
2.)Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
Queen is the greatest band in the history of forever. This is just their best song.
1.)Faithfully - Journey
If you want to put me in a good mood and restore my faith in humanity, this song's beauty and calm flow does it every time. Nothing Better

Solitary Shell - Dream Theater

How to Save a Life- The Fray: It reminds me of my dad. I like it..
Sell Your Soul- Hollywood Undead: I just really like this song. The sound and meaning and all.
This = Love - The Script: It's always stuck in my head and I'd be annoyed if I could never listen to the song that was always stuck in my head.

Music that i listen too changes quite regular, so if say a top 5 will probably change before morning lol.

Prefer more the song that have been released in last 6 years as can remember them. Most music before this time seems strange

1. Muse - Starlight
My favourite song, just ever. I could write an essay analysing it. Its beautiful.
2. The Swellers - Fire Away
Mmet these guys, stood less than 2 feet from the band as they played a set to a crowded pub in Birmingham last year. Not very big, but I love them, and this is my favourite.
3. Blink-182 - Dammit
A band who I spent 5 years wishing I could have got the chance to see, then they came back, and closed Reading Festival 2010 with this song, and it was fantastic.
4. Johnny Cash - Walk The Line
I'm not sure why I love this song so much. I would consider myself a Johnny Cash fan, but this song just speaks to me, I guess you could say I strongly relate to the chorus.
5. Weezer - Island In The Sun
Another Reading Festival moment, the sun was in the sky shining down, made this song more perfect than I thought possible. And they were the 2nd best band I've ever seen live.

Fitting first post :)

1. Hello - Evanescence.
The lyrics to this song are beautiful. Truly beautiful. It makes me cry when I listen to it (It's about Amy Lee's, lead singer, sister who died).

2. Beautiful - Christina Aguilara
If I ever feel sad I always listen to this. It makes me feel so much better about myself. A real 'pick me up'.

3. Canzonetta sull'aria - Mozart's 'The magic of figaro'
The song played in Shawshank redemption. Beautiful voices. A calming song.

4. Numb - Linkin Park
My best friend (RIP) used to play this all the time. And I just love the song.

5. Bring me to life - Evanescence
From a truly amazing band comes a truly amazing song.

1. The Becoming - Nine Inch Nails
From my favourite album, The Downward Spiral. I just love the duality in that song so much, the thin line between order and chaos, the loss of yourself in a quest for perfection.

2. In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Kind of a cheesey one, but it just sounds so sincere, how one person can only find everything they need in another.

3. Tangled Up In Blue - Bob Dylan
A song about people being pulled together by fate time after time, and how love never really goes away for good, just takes it's time coming back.

4. My Michelle - Guns N' Roses
The perfect twisted love song. Written for a girl who's life was a mess after she confessed her love for Elton John's "Your Song", it's honest about her awful situation and terrible mistakes, but that's what makes it so great.

5. Five To One - The Doors
The most powerful, domineering, cataclysmically confident song I've ever heard. Jim Morrison was the embodiment of fearlessness, especially here.
