Valentines? Bah humbug.

I hate valentines day. Those of you who know me a little may not be surprised to find that out. Those of you who know me well certainly wont be surprised that I am going to enter here into one of my rants.
I shall begin with the cards. I hate greetings cards. I hate having to spend up to £5 to tell someone "enjoy this day that was created by the person conning me out of the cost of this card." I mean seriously, it is a bit of fucking cardboard. All greetings cards should be banned utterly unless they are drawn by a child. Even those drawn by children should be banned if they are the end result of teacher saying "Lets all draw a card today for Stupidcard Day." Which translates into real English as "This will keep the little shits quiet for the afternoon."
You are aware that they employ teams of specialist writers to fill the inside of these extortionately expensive emotional blackmails with meaningless sentiment. Sentiment which is lapped up by the simpering masses and accompanied by "Oh how romantic." In actuality, they exist because the emotionally stunted lack the wherewithal to communicate their feelings, and as such are reliant on a cliché message penned by a stressed deadbeat who sits behind a desk in a card factory filled with bitterness that he didnt make it as a real author. That said, so long as the puppy in a loveheart is sickening enough, the verse might as well be taken from a christmas cracker (another overpriced and pointless item of seasonal gimmickry.)
I also loathe the saccharine sentiment of a day where you are somehow 'obligated' to tell someone you love them. Those couples who ignore each other romantically for 364 days of the year, then awkwardly exchange a stupid gift that neither particularly want to give or receive, and somehow this overpriced fold of falsely sentimental claptrap is a substitute for a sound and loving relationship.
Then comes the feeling of being alone on valentines day. Not getting a card is one of the lowest points in an already drear and dismal year. Walking into a store, or someones house, seeing these red or pink reminders that yes, you have spent another year alone. Intellectually you know it is just another day, but you didnt need that. It doesnt matter that the couple there is going to overpay for a meal they wont enjoy, spend hours wishing they were at home in front of TV rather than forced to spend the time with their partner, there was a particularly interesting program on tonight. Then home for perfunctory sex. These considerations are unimportant when you sink to the level of self despondancy where you envy them even that.
The fact I dislike the day does not change or remove the fact that there are those I do genuinely love. And while I dislike the expectation that I show this affection more on one specific day, I wouldnt hurt these people by denying them my love on this, or any other day.
To my IceMaiden. You fill my life. You took away the self delusion and fill it with hope. There is a bittersweet in that, my princess, but it is an honest emotion. You taught me not to settle out of belief i couldnt do better, and showed me that everything I want does exist. It exists in you. My slut, my slave, my princess, my baby girl, I love you every day and tell you so. More than love you, I am in love with you.
To my Hearty. You are so giving, so willing, so loving. Irrepressable and irreplaceable, my love for you is as real as the laughter and pride you bring to me.
I wont say happy valentines day, but I will thank you both for every single day.

I wrote a blog about my loathing of V-Day, not on this site. While mine was more of a rant of why I hate it nowadays and not back in the past I too touched on the subject that it is just downright stupid to "show love" only one day out of the 365. For a fair amount of us, love is just a feeling that comes naturally and should not feel as an obligation but a blessing that we get to show this. While I don't have a s.o. as I'm single and a "free agent" I still have two particular people that I love and I think they know who they are. I don't see February 14th as a holiday anymore, so much so, that I scratched it out of my calendar.
