Well I have been loking at my reputation and most of it is negative... Some stuff I think is kinda dumb and some stuff i agree with. I think that someone should look at all of the reputation/taken away, before it counts for something.

Points are added and subtracted based the reputation of the user doing the adding/subtracting. I won't say exactly how the formula works but taking away reputation is a lot harder than adding it. The amount of sway a user has is also based on how long they have been here and how high their own reputation is. Many users don't count against your reputation at all because they don't meet the secrete requirements to move people up or down.

I monitor the system and modify the way points work based on what I find. Although I disagree with some of what I see in the logs, for the most part the system is being used in a way that benifits everyone.

Also, reputation is calculated in real time. You always know exactly what you have at any given moment.

All you really need to know is the system takes abuse into account. A few bad ratings are not going to hurt you. Continue to reward good posters and the system will continue to work.

i agree with mustangman first post, there are a few Reputations that are Non-contributing. People have to give reputation for bad quality. Not because they dont like a dare or dont agree with an opinion. Thats a big difference.

what i Do like is that you have to spread some reputation before giving the same user new reputation points.

and i have got bad reputation for a good quatlity post in the Videogame thread. so.... :(

by the way. i have gotten Neutral reputation too...what is that?

I don't want to say exactly how I have the system setup but below is an example that will help you understand. I have crafted 6 sample situations to help you understand how the system calculates and awards reputation.

User A is brand new and had 12 posts. His reputation is 10. This user leaves you negative reputation. You level does not change but you do see his comments.

User B has 100 posts and a reputation of 4. People don't like him very much. This user leaves you negative reputation. You level does not change but you do see his comments.

User C has 200 posts, registered two years ago, and has a reputation of 34. This user leaves you negative reputation. Your level goes down by 4 points.

User D has 150 posts, registered a year ago, and has a reputation of 15. This user leaves you positive reputation. Your level goes up by 3 points.

User E had 50 posts, registered 2 months ago, and has a reputation of 12. He leaves you a positive reputation. You move up by one point.

Depp has 481 posts, no reputation points himself, registered when the forum began, hates what you post, and leaves you bad reputation. You now have -9000 reputation points and have trouble logging in.

I think what Depp's trying to say is basically what happens in today's highschool popularity chain. (A lot of people here are/have been through high school so it's a good analogy.)

If a total loser (small post count, low rep, ect) walks up to you and calls you a nerd, It won't really do anything.
However, if a popular person (high post count, high rep, ect) calls you a nerd, it makes a bigger difference.
It kinda goes like that I think.

I think the trouble logging in stuff is, your banned, lol. When I give rep I think that I do some damage or good wat ever I give you because the person I give the rep to, there green boxes always disaper really fast and come back. Sometimes they come back diffrent....

When I give rep I see a box apear but when I take away, nothing happens, that gets annoying.
